Title: Scrapping firm gets permit revoked

Summary: A permit that had been granted by the state of North Carolina that allowed a ship-scrapping firm to disassemble decommissioned US Navy vessels at Wilmington, NC, has been revoked by the state. The company now is accused of violating environmental statutes. Notification was received 7/3/96 by Wilmington Resources Inc that the North Carolina Division of Coastal Management intended to revoke the Coastal Area Management Act permit due to environmental violations and because of the firm's "cloudy corporate structure". The firm had until 7/22/96 to show that it was in compliance with the law and to offer reasons that the permit should not be revoked, but did not respond.
